Important Announcement Regarding Student Bank
In the past, Cushing Academy has operated a student bank in the bookstore. Effective immediately, we will no longer continue this practice. We have installed an ATM machine in the Student Center and recommend that you provide your child with a debit card, as he or she will not be able to withdraw money anywhere else on campus.
Most debit cards will work in the Student Center and the Ashburnham branch of Athol Savings Bank, located a short walk from campus, will open accounts for any Cushing Academy student. Representatives from Athol Savings Bank will be at Cushing on September 6th and 8th to open accounts for anyone interested. They also have an ATM machine at their downtown location.
Feel free to contact the Office of Student Affairs at 978.827.7015 if you have any questions, or if there is anything we can do.
Enjoy the rest of your summer break; we look forward to seeing you soon.
Best,
Barry Connors
Dean of Student Affairs
Update on Advisors and Enrollment Information
I hope you are enjoying your summer and eagerly anticipating the upcoming school year. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our advisor program and to clear up any inaccuracies that appear in the community handbook and enrollment guide.
Every student at Cushing has an advisor. Advisors are the adults most responsible for a student’s growth and development while enrolled at Cushing Academy. When a student needs help, assistance, or a friendly ear they should start with their advisor. Advisors assist students with academic matters, afternoon activities and dormitory and community life. They are also a source of reliable information regarding policies, procedures and opportunities at the academy as well as providing support for the growth and development of our young people.
If there is anything you would like to communicate to your student’s advisor, we invite you to write the advisor a letter on the accompanying form. This is of course voluntary, and the information is confidential, but it is an opportunity to help the advisor work with your student with greater insight and sensitivity right from the start.
Please send your letter to the Office of Student Affairs. Our hope is that this information will help our advisors in the important task of looking after each and every one of our students. You will notice that we asked for information on the most convenient ways to contact you as there may be times when your student’s advisor will want to share news with you.
On page 4 of the 2007-08 Enrollment Guide, there is a reference to Sunday, September 10th. Please note that this should say Sunday, September 9th.
On page 18 of the Community Handbook, it says that students are required to stay on campus through graduation ceremonies on June 1st. This is the old policy. All undergraduates attend graduation on Saturday, May 24th, and depart following their last final exam. Spring term exams are scheduled for May 25-29, 2008.
If you are interested in signing up for the E&R Laundry service, please visit their website at www.thecampuslaundry.com. If you enter the code, au21, you will see the options for Cushing Academy.
If you have any questions, or if there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Student Affairs. We can be reached at 978.827.7017 until August 15, 2007 and at 978.827.7015 afterwards. We look forward to seeing you at registration.
Best regards,
