Cushing's summer programs and activities are designed for you to build your very own summer experience tailored to your specific needs and interests. Our wide variety of engaging courses and activities ensure that there’s something here for everyone.

Create Your Own Summer Experience

We offer a selection of classes and activities in all academic subjects as well as college prep courses that count for credit. You are guaranteed to find something here that is tailored to your specific interests. Courses are designed so that you can achieve all of your individual academic and personal goals during your time at Cushing. 
 

 


Morning Programs

Morning programs offer personalized opportunities for you to immerse yourself in the subjects that you’re interested in, while preparing you for the next step of your education. Our programs are categorized by grade. Middle school students can choose from either the Explore, Immerse, or Create programs, while upper school students choose between the Excel, Immerse, Connect, and Create programs. 

Upper School (Grades 9-12)

Students entering 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade next school year can choose one of four morning programs:

Excel Program

College prep and high school courses can be taken for credit or enrichment in our 5-week program. Classes in our 3-week programs are for enrichment only.

Immerse Program

This program offers language classes and cultural immersion for students learning English. This program is highly recommended for students looking to continue their education in the United States. 

Students improve their fluency in our three or five-week program. They are tested when they first arrive and evaluated each week. Success is fostered in small class sizes with experienced teachers who meet to discuss progress.

Classes taught in the Immerse Program include: 

  • Listening + Speaking
  • Reading and Writing
  • English Language Workshops

Connect Program

The Connect Program is about the process of learning how to properly learn. The courses in this program are designed for students to learn how to capitalize on their strengths, recognize their weaknesses, and formulate an action plan for achieving academic success.

This program has 3 key components that students will cover each day: 

  • Strategies to improve English language skills
  • Review and practice of math skills
  • Study techniques

Create Program

Multimedia studio art courses introducing students of all artistic abilities to the fundamentals of color, composition, line, and space through a variety of mediums. Techniques are learned through hands-on experience, allowing students to improve their creative talents through the art form of their choice. The program culminates with an end-of-summer art show that proudly displays every piece of art created by summer session students. 

Classes taught in the Express Program include: 

  • Painting + Drawing
  • Pottery
  • Metalsmithing
  • Portfolio Preparation (College Prep)

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Students entering grades 6 , 7, and 8 next fall can choose 1 of 3 programs to spend their mornings in:

Explore Program

A range of classes, workshops, and field trips which develop students’ confidence and skills for success. Students choose one major and one minor class:

Major Classes

Major classes meet for two hours each day and allow students to explore a subject of their choice in depth while preparing for their secondary school studies. 

Major classes include: 

  • Literature and Writing
  • S.T.E.M.
  • Mathematics     
  • Robotics

Minor Classes

Minor morning classes meet for one hour each day and are designed to expand our student’s academic horizons while they build upon the skills gained from their major course of study.

Minor classes include: 

  • Legends in Literature
  • Solve it – with Science 
  • Solve it – with Logic          
  • Debate Team
  • Young Entrepreneurs

Create Program

Multi-media art studio classes, workshops, and field trips introducing students to color, composition, lines, and space in drawing, painting, pottery, and other media.

Students will spend their morning rotating through classes including: 

  • Drawing

Afternoon Activities

Your afternoons will be filled with fun classes and activities where you will make new friends and create memorable experiences. We offer additional academic classes to develop skills or discover new interests, artistic opportunities to enhance one's creative side, and athletic activities to get outside and maintain fitness. There’s something for everyone!
